Kids are full of imagination, energy and life. It is only fitting that their bedrooms should be a sanctuary of fun, personality and relaxation. Making a positive space for your kid that they’re going to love being in everyday is a challenge, but an entertaining one!
The most important things recall when decorating your little one’s bedroom are safety, function and comfort. This is the room your child will be spending the majority of their time in and it should be a special place that encourages the imagination.
Select a theme – or no theme! Does your kid have a favourite television show, cartoon character, animal, or do they love the outdoors, the water or some other setting? Surround your kid with what they adore. Be imaginative. Are they a Doctor Seuss fan, a sports fan, or all of the above? You do not have to pick! You can choose to include many parts of their personality, there aren’t any rules.
Get their input. Involve your little one in the decorating process as much as possible, after all this is their room. Getting your kid involved in the process makes them feel more pride and ownership over the room. It can be great for your kid’s creativity and self-esteem. Take them out shopping with you and before you go find out what they’d like in their room. It can be as easy as selecting a favorite color or a great chair.
Bedding sets The bed is the focus of the room and a place you would like them to enjoy being in. This may be the best place to start. Go online and look for decorative, themed bedding. Let your child pull up a chair and be involved in this as well. Now it’s easy to get bedding with your local sports team, your favorite comic character, TV show and much , much more.
Walls – paper, paint, posters Have some fun with the walls. You can paint all one color, or choose several! You can usually buy smaller cans of paint from your local hardware store, enough to do only 1 wall, permitting you to save cash on going multi-coloured. Perhaps you will find some wallpaper online to match the bedding set you picked out. Or, rather than wallpaper use sponges or stencils to create your own designs. This is a great hands-on project you can do together. Go out and get some movie posters or photos of animals or other fun things to add personality to the room. You can make your own.
Furniture Look for things that are functional, safe, and durable. You might want to consider things that your child will not quickly grow out of or bore of.
Crafts Use the redecoration project as a reason to do some creative crafts. There are unlimited crafts online that you can team up on to give a personal touch to the room. Some examples of great crafts to snazz up any bedroom include lampshades, light switch covers, wall decals, paper cut-outs, papier mache animals, mobiles, dream catchers, jewelry/toy boxes, and so on. You are limited only by your imaginativeness.
Other fun things Try putting art projects from school up and family photos. Think about storage solutions that cut back on space for activities, such as using bunkbeds. Maximizing floor space can make a smaller bedroom that much more functional. If feasible, pick a colour or theme that may be adjusted and change with the times as your child’s interests develop.
