Children always have and always will enjoy a good story before they go to sleep at bedtime. Stories take their minds away from reality and let their imaginations run wild until they fall asleep. Bedtime stories have become a tradition which have been passed down for generations and are still just as important today as they have always been. Although children will be happy with most stories, there are some which have become favourites and become known as the best bedtime stories ever.
One of the most popular bedtime stories of all time is The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This book is simple and children enjoy hearing it over and over again. Because of this it has continued to be successful and sell since it was first released some 43 years ago in 1969. The book is about a caterpillar which is very hungry and so eats lots of food before eventually turning into a beautiful butterfly. It is available in a staggering 47 languages and believe it or not still sells on average a copy every minute across the world.
Another story which has been popular with children for a long time is The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. More recently it has been turned into films and this has made the story much more popular. The story is about a group of children who find that there is another world called Narnia hidden inside their wardrobe. They enter into Narnia and have an amazing adventure together.
There are a lot of modern stories which are just as popular too and the Harry Potter series is a perfect example of this. They have become a bedtime story favourite in recent years especially because of the huge success of the film versions of the books. Parents should be aware however that there are seven lengthy Harry Potter books for them to get through.
Another classic story is that of Winnie the Pooh. Winnie the Pooh has also been around for a number of years and the various stories involving his friends; Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger among others are thoroughly entertaining and funny.
