It is better to give than to receive. This adage is written and practiced in almost every faith and religion. People can literally give the shirts off their backs and be disappointed when they end up in the poor house. Don’t be fooled by all this crap about giving and not receiving. It’s just a tactic that people use to trick you into giving them your money!

We all have searched the Internet and have heard stories about attracting abundance and prosperity into our lives. We have attended workshops, seminars, and brought almost every self-help CD on the market. Truthfully, no matter how hard we focus, we are never going to have enough money. This is where people have missed the mark, because abundance is not about having a great deal of money. It is about having a great deal of love.

Let’s face it. We live in a world where there’s limited resources. As far as I can tell, it’s always been that way. It started with the barter system, where everything was based on a trade. People traded crops for services and services for crops. However, the barter system got a little complicated, when people’s services or crops were no longer needed. Then, someone came up with the brilliant idea to create money, a currency system that enabled people to buy whatever they wanted. People started to provide their services and products for money.

Now, people can’t get the barter system out of their heads. When they go out and buy something. They want to get the best deal possible. They are looking for a bargain, a steal; the best deal money can buy. Why do people behave like this? Because they understand that resources are scarce and they have to get their money to stretch as far as possible.

Many of us take the same approach to love and relationships as we do with money. We want to hold onto it tightly and never let it go. We feel like love has to be an exchange, and that we need to get as much value out of a person as possible. Many of us enter relationships with a cynical attitude, hackling, swindling, and using more tricks than a used car salesman. We do this because we don’t want to be put at a disadvantage. Now, we make love investments, and we are so afraid of taking a loss.

But we never can avoid the pain of loss. There is no such thing as a love warrantee. If we put our hearts on the line, there is a chance that our hearts might get broken. We suffer from loneliness and longing because we are conditioned to believe that love is scarce. We believe that much like a currency, we have to earn it and make sacrifices to feel love. We enter into these love contracts where we feel so entrapped and restricted because we have to give up so much of ourselves. Then, love becomes nourishing, but it also works to imprison the soul.

When we understand the true essence of love. We can then understand the love is the only resources in life that is abundant. Love can be blissful and everlasting when it comes from within. Self-love it the most powerful form of love. It is a zero risk transaction that is going to increase your bottom line. Because once you learn about self-love, you don’t have any more expectations. And you simply allow others to just be who and what they are.

We don’t have to go through life in the dark. We don’t have to keep our love on locked down. Once we understand the true power of love, we can operate as if we are millionaires. We can write love checks and never fear that we will take a loss. Self-love is about abundance. When we have self-love, we are no longer dependent on other to meet our needs. We simply don’t have any expectations this is why people say that it is better to give than to receive.
